Asala Living, A Moroccan Soul for Your Home
Asala Living was born from a simple love for Moroccan craftsmanship and a wish to give it a real place in our everyday lives. We have always felt that a home is more than furniture and decor. It is a living story made of memories, textures, light, and quiet moments. “Asala” in Arabic — a word that evokes authenticity, roots, and depth — perfectly expresses this spirit and guides us each day. With this word in mind, we choose a Moroccan rug in a small village, talk with weavers in the Atlas Mountains, and adjust the last stitch on a handmade sofa in our workshop.
How our story began
Asala Living started in Morocco in 2016 as a small gallery and creative space dedicated to Moroccan rugs and artisanal decor. In the beginning, it was just a few pieces, a lot of curiosity, and many trips between cities, villages, and mountain roads. Over time, in the Atlas Mountains, we sat on low stools, shared tea with weavers, and listened more than we spoke. We saw women working without sketches, letting their hands follow memories, dreams, and symbols they had carried since childhood. Their rugs spoke of seasons, ceremonies, hopes, and protection. Little by little, we understood that Asala Living could not be just a shop. Instead, it had to be a bridge between these ancestral stories and homes looking for comfort, beauty, and authenticity.
From the Atlas to your living room
Today, our work begins far away from showrooms, in rural areas where life still follows the rhythm of the seasons. There, on wooden looms, artisans weave Moroccan rugs by hand, knot after knot, using techniques families pass down through generations. We collaborate with cooperatives, small workshops, and independent artisans across Morocco. Over the years, we have built long‑term relationships based on trust, fair trade, and shared pride in preserving Moroccan craftsmanship. Each rug we select is unique and comes in small quantities. It is not just a decorative object. It is a piece of heritage that carries its own soul into your home.
Handwoven Moroccan Rugs
Rugs are where Asala Living began, and where our heart still returns first. Whether it is an Azilal with playful lines, a soft and minimal Beni Ourain, a vibrant Boujaad, a recycled Boucherouite, a flat‑woven Kilim, or a unique vintage rug, we handpick each piece. In many cases, we develop it in close collaboration with our artisan partners. These Moroccan rugs do not come from mass production. Artisans weave them slowly, often from natural materials, and many include protective symbols or patterns inspired by everyday life. As a result, bringing one into your home feels like inviting a small part of the Moroccan landscape and culture into your daily rituals.
Sofas Made from Moroccan Rugs
At the heart of Asala Living is our sofa collection. These pieces are made for real life: to sit, rest, read, talk, and share, while they carry the poetry of Moroccan rugs. Each sofa is handcrafted in Morocco, in small batches, with careful attention to proportions, comfort, and finishing. We work with different types of Moroccan rugs — from soft Beni Ourain to expressive Boujaad, colorful Boucherouite, and refined Kilim — to dress our sofas in textures that feel both timeless and contemporary. Some models come from vintage rugs that already lived another life. Others begin with rugs we weave specifically for our designs.

Craftsmanship and time
We do not rush creation. Each piece you see on Asala Living — a rug, a handmade sofa, a pouf, or a pillow — represents hours of work and years of experience. Artisans pass these gestures from one generation to the next. We choose to respect this time. That means small production, manual work, and sometimes waiting a bit longer for the right rug or the right finish. In the end, our approach to Moroccan design interior stays rooted in authenticity and human connection, not in speed or volume.
Ethics, trust, and long‑term relationships
Asala Living follows ethical sourcing and fair trade values. Because of this, we follow the journey of our products from the loom or workshop to your home, and we know the people behind them. This knowledge allows us to be transparent, to pay fairly, and to focus on quality instead of quantity. For us, clients are not just customers. Instead, many stay in touch, send photos of their homes, and come back when their spaces evolve. When you choose one of our rugs, sofas, poufs, pillows, baskets, or plates, you support Moroccan craftsmanship and rural communities. You also take part in a shared story that goes far beyond a single purchase.
A home with a Moroccan soul
Asala Living is an invitation to slow down and to choose pieces that really resonate with you. From a minimalist Beni Ourain rug to a bold sofa made from Moroccan rugs, each creation offers a way to bring more warmth, depth, and story into your everyday life. We are based in Marrakech, Morocco, yet our pieces travel wherever there is a desire for authentic Moroccan decor and handmade sofas. Whether you are just discovering Moroccan design or deepening a long‑time love for it, we are here to guide and accompany you. In the end, we hope our creations quietly become part of your life and help your home tell its own story, with a Moroccan soul at its heart.
